My eyes flutter open
It is cool, dark, still
What woke me?
The barest of morning light outlines the oaks in the window
She stirs
She stirs again
"Mama"
She is on hands and knees
Covers the distance between us
Tumbles into the soft of my shoulder
Her small, smooth hand lands on my cheek
She is still once more
I close my eyes, drowsy
Feel the rhythmic rise and fall of my stomach
And am dreaming again
